Who is Denis ?

Denis Grosmaire is a deep freediver (-360 feet), marine conservationist, and documentary collaborator in French Polynesia and also Air Tahiti Nui ambassador since 2019. He grew up in French Polynesia, on Moorea and several remote atolls where his mother, a schoolteacher, chose to teach in the most isolated islands. This childhood among lagoons and reefs shaped his deep connection with the ocean and the island way of life. For more than twenty years, Denis has been based in Tikehau, in the Tuamotu Archipelago, where he explores the surrounding atolls and dedicates his life to discovering the most pristine underwater sites.

In 2005, with two childhood friends, he founded the TORE TORE Association for the protection of sharks in French Polynesia, the very first local initiatives dedicated to shark conservation and awareness.

He has collaborated with Discovery Channel (Shark Week) and Thalassa, and appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, and Men’s Journal, sharing the spirit of his Pacific adventures with a global audience.

As the president of TORE TORE and guide of immersive Tuamotu Expeditions, Denis creates authentic experiences that connect travelers to Polynesian culture, marine life, and the untamed beauty of the ocean he calls home.

While on Tikehau Atoll, he worked for over 6 years with the 4-star Tikehau Pearl Resort to run group and private snorkeling excursions, showcasing the atoll’s rich marine life.

Denis is also the author of the eBook Respirer comme l’océan, where he shares his breathing techniques, drawing on his experience as a deep freediver—techniques that restore clarity, inner calm, and self-confidence.
